DOSCIIT'S PARTNERS IN ICT FOR DEVELOPMENT

 

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) - is an organization advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. Particularly, DOSCIIT was involved in the formulation of Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP II) and the activities of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG). Through the support of UNDP's Rapid Advisory and Capacity Development Facility (RACDF), the Government Web Portal Project was funded and the implementation is currently on-going.

United Nations Volunteer (UNV) - supported DOSCIIT by fielding one UN Volunteer - ICT Specialist to assist in the implementation of e-Government Strategies.

United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) - provided technical support and expertise in undertaking the Scan-ICT studies (similar to e-readiness survey). They lead in the formulation of the National Information and Communication Infrastructure (NICI) plan and policies (similar to e-strategy) and the Gambia ICT4D - 2012 Plan.

African Information Society Initiative (AISI) - provided funding support in the formulation of NICI plan, policies and implementation plan

International Telecommunication Union (ITU) - provided technical support in the drafting and finalization of Information and Communications Bill 2008. They continuously provided guidance, advisories, and support in the telecommunications side of the Department.

Commonwealth Telecommunication Organization (CTO) - organizes workshops, conferences and other training programs related to African Telecommunications Commission and work closely with ITU.

Regional African Satellite Communications Organization (RASCOM) - as a member country, they assisted Gambia in setting-up of Operations Center in Banjul in order to establish a satellite communication links. It is an intergovernmental commercially run organization whose capital is open to the private sector.

Economic Community Of West African States ( ECOWAS) - as a regulatory body of West Africa, their support is to ensure that the ICT Bill 2008 of the Gambia is consistent with the ECOWAS protocol and telecommunications policies.

Government of Finland - provided financial assistance through UNECA to support nine African Countries including the Gambia to under Scan-ICT studies.

Government of India - provided grant assistance including technical support and training in the implementation of e-Health, e-Education and VVIP Teleconferencing projects under the Pan-African e-Network (an initiative of India and African Union).

Government of Egypt - extended support in the realization of the Technology Park of the Gambia . Their assistance includes development of project documents, survey of the site and trainings related to ICT.

Government of Taiwan - responsible for establishing an IT Maintenance Center which conducts training on different subjects such as computer networking, basic computer repair and maintenance, basic computer applications, etc, for interested Gambians. They also provided two computer servers for e-mail, web, DNS, database and back-up. They also provided opportunities for qualified Gambians to attend trainings in Taiwan related to ICT.

Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) - assisted GRTS in terms of training needs and technical assistance in Broadcasting/News and operations of studio.
