On behalf of the Ministry of Information and Communication Infrastructure (MOICI), let me welcome you to our website.

This Ministry has been committed to supporting the growth of the ICT industry in The Gambia and ensuring that Every Gambian is connected.

This site is one of the several ICT tools MOICI is using to inform and provide access to information regarding our structures, policies, programs and achievements in the ICT sector.

The fast paced information age has created growth opportunities, and has played a significant role in enhancing the social and economic development of the nation; these improvements are evident in developed countries today. Improvements in infrastructure, public administration, finance, trade, security, marketing, commerce, agriculture, education, tourism, health, businesses and so forth, are all geared towards the utilization of massive ICT applications today.

Therefore it is important that MOICI continues to create and enhance policies that will shape to fit the information society. MOICI adopted and completed the first phase of the National Information and Communications Infrastructure (NICI Policy) implementation plan which would develop the Gambian Information Society and to accelerate the process of transforming the country into a Silicon Valley in Africa.

MOICI also will continue to embrace and promote an e-government environment in The Gambia along solid international, regional and south- south cooperation already set by our Government.

We aim to strike a balance between the consumers, investors and maintain an enabling environment where local companies could also benefit from arising market opportunities. MOICI seeks to foster necessary growth in the ICT infrastructure where available, affordable and accessible ICT services can be attained for The Gambian people through assessment from our Public Utility and Regulatory Authority (PURA).

One of the Government's goals through ICT is to have The Gambia grow into a competitive ICT hub which would become an outsourcing destination and a base for technology services, knowledge, production and development. To reach this goal MOICI is seriously working on infrastructure and capacity building in order to obtain the goals set.

The Information and Communication technologies (ICT) sector of The Gambia has reached a renaissance period where the sector has been growing ahead of expectations in competition, innovation, learning best practices, encouraging public private partnership and attracting investors from across seas.

As a result, it is also very important that the goals and projects we are currently over looking, transform into a major turning point of the ICT development in The Gambia.

With the use of modern technology, together with the private sector, civil society, good investors and development partners, Government can certainly increase ICT benefits for our citizens. We all need to work together as it is in our own interest that we are up to date and not behind the new ICT developments.
